Ubuntu optimizer is a tool, for 32 bits Ubuntu: to increase Ubuntu speed (please read the program options) and to auto optimize Firefox.

After the download of mb-ubuntu-optimizer:

Close Firefox otherwise a warning will come in front of you and no Firefox optimization will be performed.
Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and maximize the terminal window:

Then please change directory where mb-ubuntu-optimizer was saved, usually in this dir is the Desktop directory of the user so to achieve this from terminal type:

cd $HOME/Desktop
chmod 700 mb-ubuntu-optimizer-119


Then we must run the program with this command,
if sqlite3 package is installed it also vacuum internal Firefox databases:

./mb-ubuntu-optimizer-119

ubuntu-optimizer-119 without any additional run parameters will do a firefox optimization and will check for the old kernels. Internal sql database optimization of Firefox will be performed only if the sqlite3 package is already installed on the system.

To get suggestions about terminal commands to write to install additional suggested applications packages and to get the Ubuntu optimization commands, type:

./mb-ubuntu-optimizer-119 all


What mb-ubuntu-optimizer do... ?

1 - if launched without additional, optionals, parameters: it auto optimize Firefox and search for all installed old kernels and give commands suggestions to remove them.
It analyze the current user Firefox setup, it take a backup of them and optimize the parameters.
If the package sqlite3 is already installed it will perform the vacuum of the internal Firefox .sqlite databases.

2 - mb-ubuntu-optimizer can be run with optional parameters, the options can be specified by passing "?" at mb_optimizer-119 run for example: ./mb-ubuntu-optimizer-119 ?

If the optional parameter 'alltofile' is specified: ./mb-ubuntu-optimizer-119 alltofile the system is analyzed, and a report text file will be created.
The generated report contains the steps to do to optimize Ubuntu, additionally at the end of the file there are instructions to setup a quick and functional firewall.
The default rules of this firewall are to close all the inbound ports, by the way you will be still able to browse internet and to download your mail.

You can edit and customize the firewall rules, from terminal type:

sudo gedit /etc/init.d/firewall

and to activate other rules please remove the # at the begin of the single rule row you will want to activate.


After firewall rules editing please restart the firewall by typing:

sudo /etc/init.d/firewall restart

please check the firewall starting messages and/or error messages if there are any.
